Loudcrowd mixes gaming, social networking and music

I just learned about an interesting new twist on social networking: Loudcrowd.com.

Essentially the site is a social networking site that focuses on multi-player online games. Their big selling point is that they integrate tons of music throughout the site as a way for players to learn about the newest underground bands and gives the bands a chance to promote themselves.

Their biggest hit right now is a game similar to Dance, Dance Revolution. Loudcrowd claims the game's been played more than a million times and that 25 percent of their players have returned at least 100 times in a month's time.

In addition to the games, the site gives users a chance to surf through numerous playlists compiled by DJs and other players. They hope to make money by selling upgraded content like more games, avatar features and even by selling music for download.

It will be interesting to see how many people actually buy this content and how many stay true to typical YAYA form and just access the free content.

While watching television this evening I paused briefly as I heard a commercial from TGI Fridays about joining their Facebook Fan Page for Woody. In under 12 days they accomplished a major feat driving in over 500,000 fans to their fan page, oriental rugs FanWoody, using several types of media to promote their special deal including Facebook, YouTube, email campaigns, and commercials. The catch was that the first 500,000 fans would then receive a coupon for a free Jack Daniels Burger or Chicken Sandwhich, and outdoor carpet in these economioc times, a deal like this seems hard to pass up for most.This most recent effort by yet another major chain is ongoing proof that large companies, retailers, and restaurants are now using social media as a carpet prices platform along with traditional media to drive in consumers and communicate with their current consumer base.
