Student Ad Agency Cooks Up Giant Fortune Cookie on MU Campus

Columbia, Mo. – (Nov. 3, 2006) A three-dimensional 4-foot by 14- foot fortune cookie made from wood, chicken wire, and papier-mâché was erected on the front lawn of the School of Journalism on Thursday, November 3 to bring good fortune to all students applying for positions in MOJO Ad for the upcoming Winter semester.

“It’s a high traffic area, so we hoped to grab immediate attention from the majority of journalism students walking between classes,” said Ben Blackman, MOJO Ad Account Executive.

MOJO Ad is the nation’s first student-staffed professional services strategic communications agency specializing in the youth and young adult market. From October 31 through November 10, senior and graduate strategic communications students were invited to apply for seven open positions in the agency including Account Executive, Media Planner, Art Director, Copywriter, Researcher, and Webmaster.

In addition to the giant fortune cookie display, MOJO Ad staffers hand-delivered small fortune cookies to Strategic Communication classes scheduled throughout the day on Thursday. The fortune cookies were customized to resonate with the youth and young adult market. “I noticed a few people chuckling as they read their fortune, so we know the messages were well-targeted,” said Ashley Spratt, MOJO Ad’s Team B Public Relations Account Executive.

MOJO Ad management has high expectations for the incoming students. There are a handful of very talented individuals leaving MOJO Ad this semester, but Larry Powell, MOJO Ad’s Director, said he looks forward to the fresh perspectives new students can bring to the table.
The MOJO AD staff for Spring 2007 will be announced Wednesday, December 6, 2006.
