Larry Powell
Agency Director and Creative Directorl.powell@mojo-ad.com
With an early interest in art and after a long career in advertising, Larry decided to combine his passion for creativity and mentoring into -- what else? -- a career in teaching creativity. Prior to full-time teaching at Mizzou, Larry was an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. In 2004 he helped found Mojo Ad. His belief is that everyone is born with creativity and with proper coaching and direction, the great majority of people -- even those who lost the natural creativity that's a natural part of childhood -- can tap into their right brain and learn how to develop strategically-sound ideas. Larry is an award-winning Art Director and former principal of his own advertising & design firm which he founded in Dallas in 1993. Larry began his career as a graphic designer and soon moved on to the fast-paced world of full-service advertising agencies. His positions included stints at Mitchell & Manning, Bozell and Evans Group (now Publicis). He has worked on a wide variety of accounts including Zales/Bailey Banks & Biddle, JCPenney, Wendy's, Chili's, Blue Cross Blue Shield, American Airlines, TU Electric & Gas and Miller Brewing to name some.
Larry stays young by enthusiastically accepting the fun that comes from raising a young son and through his travels in the US and abroad to feed his other passion -- trend spotting.
